Beira Montalvo currently serves as a Compliance Officer and Backup Recall Coordinator for the Division of Human and Animal Food Operations East IV covering FL, PR, USVI.
Ms. Montalvo began her career with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010 as a Consumer Safety Officer within Florida District, Import Operations located in Miami Lakes, FL. As an investigator, she performed a wide variety of import investigations, joint operational work on Customs and Border Protection (CBP) blitz, provided new investigator training, and acted as Supervisory CSO on numerous occasions, gaining a wealth of experience throughout the years.
As a Compliance Officer, Ms. Montalvo has reviewed and evaluated numerous cases of FDA-regulated products posing risk to the public health, and followed up with compliance advisory and administrative actions, that includes but not limited to, warning letters, recalls and suspension of food facility registration and collaborative work with FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations. She has served as Acting Director of Compliance Branch (ADCB) and has been assigned to mentor new domestic and imports Compliance Officers. In her position of backup recall coordinator, she has worked on numerous recalls, complaint follow-ups, and has interacted and coordinated with multi-disciplinary teams such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), FDA subject-matter experts, FDA’s Coordinated Outbreak Response and Evaluation (CORE) Network and local government public health agencies during foodborne illness outbreaks. She has a bachelor’s in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.
