Consumer Safety Officer, Division of Produce Safety, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, FDA
Trevor Gilbert began his career as an Agricultural Extension Officer with the Department of Agriculture and Labor in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, including various agricultural assignments throughout the Eastern Caribbean. He joined the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), AMS Specialty Crops Inspection Division as a Supervisory Agricultural Commodity Grader, providing oversight to a full range of fruit and vegetable grading services to applicable US Grade Standards. Mr. Gilbert was also a Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Handling Practices (GHP) and Commodity Identity Preservation (IP) Auditor, auditing farms and produce distribution facilities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. He later became a Marketing Specialist within the USDA AMS SCI Division in Washington, DC. Currently, Mr. Gilbert is with the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) as a Consumer Safety Officer within the Division of Produce Safety. As a team member of the Produce Safety Network (PSN), he provides education, outreach and technical assistance on the FSMA Produce Safety Rule to the following states in the Southern Region- Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, including some international engagements. Mr. Gilbert has 31 years of experience in the produce and food safety industry.
